YT Rampage Reporter – Dropping Cliffs, Not Bombs
There is Enduro, there is Downhill… and then there is RAMPAGE!
Today was off the chain… Qualifying Day was not for the faint-hearted, with some nasty spills, unfortunate mistakes but also some rowdy content laid down. Outside of the 12 pre-qualifiers, 23 riders took to the hill with two runs to state their claims and prove their worth, to be included on the RedBull Rampage start gate for 2015.
Once qualifying was complete, the afternoon was open to final line prep and riders dialling in their runs. Again the hillside was littered with airborne bikes in every direction and some nasty spills from rides… which may even change the qualified entries for Friday’s final!
I caught up with all three pre-qualified YT team riders, fit and ready to drop in for tomorrow’s final. Kelly McGarry has deviated his line, for the fourth time. He has lined up a more central run – due to the low scoring west ridge in qualifying, which originally was to play a part in his race run. Cameron Zink has the line of gods and is looking calm and collected to bring it to the stage on Friday. Finally the reigning champ Andreu Lacondeguy is pumped to bring something else at finals, with hectic plans for his line.
Tomorrow will not disappoint and our YT Crew are playing for keeps. With some polished lines and a plethora of tricks up all their sleeves, all I can say is hold on tight…
